The NPR Incident

Rarely do we have the ability to so clearly the underlying and unexpressed thoughts of others.  But this week, an opportunity:

If you are a conservative or a Republican or a Christian, and you want to know what the publisher and editors of the New York Times, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, PBS, the BBC, NPR, and the President (recall his speech in Pennsylvania) truly and sincerely think of you, listen closely to the luncheon with a senior NPR executive Ron Schiller and you’ll completely understand the dominant thinking at these extremely influential institutions.

  1. Steph says:

Watch these full cut versions (with commentary by the Blaze, the extremely biased Glenn Beck-affiliated source who released the film and then went back and had someone go through the full-length version to reveal material edits) and you will see how easily people can be swayed by media manipulation on BOTH sides of the partisan aisle. Several independent agencies specializing in film editing have said that the clip released CLEARLY was heavily edited to portray the message these guys wanted to portray before they went to lunch for the video sting. One specific example: at one point they cut some laughter from the beginning of the conversation when they were small-talking with the waiter and pasted it into one of the controversial parts to make it seem as if Schiller was laughing at a racist comment. You can’t condemn the liberal media and not condemn The Blaze for this irresponsible, manipulative, and deliberately deceptive attack on NPR:

Stephanie, thank you for the reply and the link to this very interesting video. I want to say, clearly and for the record, the Voice of Reason condemns all media bias!
I say that whether it’s the mainstream right wing bias that is delivered over Fox News, or the mainstream left wing bias which is delivered by NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, PBS, BBC, and the New York Times (get my point?) : )

I have special condemnation for those news organizations who are funded with my tax dollars, no matter how small a percentage of their total budgets. This would therefore especially condemn NPR because it is funded by my family’s money, whereas the Blaze and Glenn Beck are commercial enterprises (and they are not sources of news, nor do they purport to be, they are sources of opinion).

Lastly, while there was clearly manipulation here that would make one squirm, we cannot avoid the factual aspects of the NPR story and the confirmation we received as to how much disdain the liberal elite have for anyone right-of-center. And while these tapes were edited, don’t forget the following:

      1. NPR’s official statement after their review of the matter was as follows: “We are appalled by the comments made by Ron Schiller in the video, which are contrary to what NPR stands for.” (Maybe they were just referring to the part where he said they didn’t need the government subsidy??) : )

      2. Unedited, raw feed, Ron Schiller did say this: “SCHILLER: The current Republican Party, particularly the Tea Party, is fanatically involved in people’s personal lives and very fundamental Christian — and I wouldn’t even call it Christian. It’s this weird evangelical kind of move… it’s been hijacked by this group that…
“MUSLIM”: The radical, racist, Islamophobic, Tea Party people?
SCHILLER: It’s not just Islamophobic, but really xenophobic. Basically, they believe in white, middle America, gun-toting — it’s pretty scary. They’re seriously racist, racist people.”

      3. And he also said: “Now, I’ll talk personally – as opposed to wearing my NPR hat. It feels to me that there is a real anti-intellectual move on the part of a significant part of the Republican party. In my personal opinion, liberals today might be more educated, fair and balanced than conservatives”

      4. I could go on and on, but go to this link and you will see how he slammed Jews, Jewish owners/control of the news media, more on the moronic Republicans and ignorant right wing, etc:

But, I want to be clear: I condemn media bias. I want my news the way Fox News says they deliver it (but don’t): Fair, balanced, and unafraid!
