Never, ever, ever should an American Ambassador be in a situation where they can be killed in a U.S. Consulate. This is a failure of monumental proportions.
Christopher Stevens, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, was killed yesterday by extremists while he was inside the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi. How our military, security, and political apparatus allowed this to happen is inexplicable. A U.S. Embassy is American territory, sacred ground in essence, and should be as safe as a child in their parent’s arms.
We must find out what happened here and ensure that we put measures in place that never, ever allow this to happen again.
