The Detroit Free Press Endorses…Mitt Romney! CORRECTED: Detroit News and Grand Rapids Press, Not Detroit Free Press and Chicago Tribune

This story has been corrected. The Free Press and Tribune endorsed Barack Obama, the Detroit News and Grand Rapids Press endorsed Mitt Romney.  The VOR regrets this significant factual error and will not let it happen again.

And so does the Detroit News, the Grand Rapids Press, and the Chicago Tribune!  And, so does auto industry legend Lee Iaccoca!

While our President traipses around the swing states dishonestly claiming Mitt Romney wanted the American auto industry wiped out, newspaper editorial boards in the heart of the auto belt endorse Obama’s opponent.

  1. Bueti, Rick says:

PS: I just called my dad who’s a big obama fan. I said, “Dad, why did the 2 largest papers in Detroit just endorse Romney for President versus your boy who “saved the auto industry?” He said, “because Romney was born in Detroit.” I said, “Dad, what’s that got to do with it? Would they endorse Adolf Hitler if he were born in Detroit?”

    LOL. What a pisser.

I give the old man credit though, almost 94 years old and sharp as a tack. He’s fired up, thinks Romney is going to get us into a war with Iran immediately which is his number one concern and why he dislikes Romney (and Republicans). I can’t argue with him on that. He’s been there, landed on Utah beach 5 days after D-Day. Who am I to tell him he’s wrong?

Might want to check your facts here.

The Detroit Free Press endorsed Barack Obama:

    http://www.freep.com/article/20121028/OPINION01/121026117/Detroit-Free-Press-Endorsement-Top-reasons-to-re-elect-Obama-president

“The Free Press enthusiastically endorses Barack Hussein Obama for four more years as president.”

Looks like the the Chicago Tribune endorsed Obama as well:

    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-10-26/news/chi-obama-endorsement-chicago-tribune-20121026_1_president-obama-barack-obama-tax-cuts

And, I don’t think The Detroit News’s endorsement of Romney really demonstrates anything; the Detroit News has been published since 1873, and has never endorsed a Democrat. So nothing new here.

As for the Grand Rapids Press, it did indeed endorse Romney. It’s worth noting that Grand Rapids is traditionally a very conservative city, and I imagine the Grand Rapids Press typically endorses Republicans, though I can’t say for certain. Finally, Grand Rapids isn’t really an automotive town, so it’s a stretch to say it’s “in the heart of the auto belt.” Chicago isn’t really an automotive city either, but I suppose that point is moot, because the Tribune endorsed Obama.
